As traditional business owners, my wife Kelly and I were feeding our family and our bank accounts were growing. The problem is that we felt like hamsters on a running wheel that never stopped. We were working combined 80- to 100-hour weeks.

After several months researching home businesses on the internet, and talking to other home business owners, I began to determine what my options were. Rather than taking the time and financial risk of trying to start my own home business idea from scratch again, I decided to focus again on the concept of franchising.

In 2002, we opened a residential real estate appraisal company. This time we chose to start from scratch and design our own business model. In 2004, we opened a real estate brokerage and again did it completely on our own. Between 2000 and 2003, we also purchased five residential properties to provide a passive income. As business owners, we thought that we were building "ongoing income." Little did we know what we were really doing — digging ourselves deeper and deeper in a rut!

I decided to do something about it and learned about the concept of creating a residual income - Here we are, using social networking and the Internet to build relationships and our business.
