Hello every one, Bill here.

I just wanted to talk a bit about what I am seeing on “Social Networks” in the blog area’s. As of late, it seems that people are using the blogs to advertise this opportunity or that opportunity.

Now blogs are a great tool to use to get yourself noticed. But using them to just advertise something, to me is just a step up from spamming. For me, when I see a title that looks like it’s just an advertisement I don’t even look at them. I’ve seen all of them before. So if you think about it, by using blogs to advertise you are only hurting yourself.

If you want to use blogs, use them in the way that they were intended. Here is the definition of what a blog is from Wikipedia;
    “A blog (a contraction of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting) are part of a wider network of social media. Micro-blogging is another type of blogging which consists of blogs with very short posts. As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs.[1] With the advent of video blogging, the word blog has taken on an even looser meaning of any bit of media wherein the subject expresses his opinion or simply talks about something
.”

Now if you use blogs based on the above description, you will definitely be helping get your self recognized. Write your blogs on subjects that you are familiar with. Use them to give out information on a subject. In that way, you will be offering something of value and people will start to look to you for information. You will start to become noticed more this way. And at the same time be helping others learn either something about you, or something about a subject you have written about that they didn’t have any knowledge of.

There are places to advertise and there are places to provide help and knowledge. Help yourself out by knowing which are which.

Hello, Bill Rowe here.

I want to talk a little bit about doing business on the Internet.

There are a lot of people out there searching for their gold mine and getting into on line businesses. That is a good thing to see.

However, most of what I see are people just getting started and not being successful. Social Networks are becoming a places where a lot of people are going to try and promote their opportunities. It is a great place to do that but……

If you want to be successful in your online venture, the main thing to keep in mind is that whatever opportunity you are promoting, it is a business. I see so much glitter and cartoons and everything else that is not business related. If you are on these sites just to socialize, that's fine. But if you are out here to do business, I don't think it fits a business profile. You will do better if you keep business, business.

When I join a social community, or any place else, I go in knowing what I am there for. That is to do business. I create a professional looking profile that will allow people to see some of what I have to offer. If you've ever seen one of my profiles I use a background of a water ski team that I belong to. You may ask why that? I use it because the picture depicts teamwork. It’s a group of young people who created something fantastic. But they couldn't have made it happen if it were not for the teamwork involved. The rest of the page shows something I can offer to who ever might be out there looking for a business opportunity. Or be in a business already, but are still looking for success. Bottom line here is to keep it neat and professional. No glitter, or something where you can't read the text. I've seen some people make their backgrounds transparent. It's ok to do that as long as you can read the text. That is where your visitors are going to find out what you are about.

Somebody may be asking "but aren't they social networks?" Yes, they are. But you can be professional about it and use words and conversation to be social. As a matter of fact, that's how you build relationships. By being social and starting conversations. If some one comes to one of your profiles and sees a professional looking business image portrayed, they will likely look at that as somebody who is serious about being in business. Which will only be to your advantage.

The question I have for you today is, is there a difference between "Networking" and "Advertising"?

If you don't know, the answer is yes!

I see this so much and I get the feeling that people just don't know the difference. Let me explain.

Advertising is promoting a product or a company that you are looking to add people to or have them purchase something.

Networking is meeting people and getting to know them.

There is a time and place for both of these. My recommendation is to start out by networking. By doing this you are establishing a relationship with someone. You talk to them. You find out what their interest are. You will learn soon enough if they are looking for something extra or not. If they are then that is the time to kindly let them know that you may be able to help them. If not they are probably not going to be interested in anything you might be selling. You can always connect with them based on some other interest or hobby and you can still maintain them as a contact. If you've made an impression on them they may contact you in the future.

Look at it this way. If you strike up a conversation with somebody and all they do is try to sell you something, and you are not looking, are you going to show an interest? Didn't think so.

If you are one of those that use business or social networks to advertise, keep this in mind. Even on the internet we are all still people. If you are out here looking to improve your life style thats great and I commend you for it. But if you learn to do it properly, you will find your success rate much greater.

Social Networking seems to be the craze these days. There are quite a few out there and I'm sure more to come.

I have joined some of these and find them to be a very useful tool if used properly. Unfortunately I see a lot of people joining these sites and using them to spam their business opportunity. Now don't get me wrong Social Networks are a great place to advertise your business. But there is a place for that. Every Social Network site that I have been on has a place to advertise your business. That's where you should post your biz op. Usually when you set up your profile on these sites there is a place to put your url or web site address. That's a start for your advertising. If you want more exposure than that, go to the place where you can post your biz op. There are usually more that one place to do so.

All of them have forums or groups for a variety of different subjects ranging from specific businesses to pets to just friends. The way you should use these sites is to go to the different forums/groups and get to know the people there. You will find people that have the same interests as you both in the business arena and out. Look for those that have the same interests and introduce yourself. Don't talk about business right away. Just get to know them. Find out what their opportunity is or if they have some other interest in common with you.

After you get to know them a bit you can find out how they are advertising. What tools do they use. You may find something you didn't know was even out there and be able to apply it to your biz op and become more successful. Always share your information with them as it pertains to what tools you use as well. They might find something in your bag of tricks that they didn't know about. And if it is lets say an affiliate program that you are using to lets say advertise your business, now you have a new prospect for that opportunity. There are so many programs and tools out there, I know everybody is not using all of them or has even heard of therm all.

I use Social Networking as stated above and find it to be very rewarding. Both for  my business and for the friendships that I build along the way.

These little tidbits will help you build a stronger team. If you're lucky enough you might even find that diamond in the rough that will join you in building a team that is unstoppable.

Always be yourself, be positive, polite, and pleasant. Don't try to be something you're not.
