People have the wrong idea about social networks. They think it’s the place to bash their business opportunity within an inch of it’s life. Well, I have news for them. It’s not.
In fact, the best way to promote oneself at social networks is not to promote oneself at all.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I would love all my friends to take a look at every hot business I am involved with. But I know that, to do that, I lose credibility. Yes, your credibility is lost as quickly and easily as that. By having the "take a look at this" mentality, all you do is trigger the salesman alarm in your reader’s mind. And once that happens, it’s the end of the line.
Let’s face it, there is a basic fundamental that still holds true for new customers and distributors:
"People decide to join you and not your business". And this is what social networking sites are all about.
It's your opportunity to share something about yourself and not to promote your business. And you do so by posting blogs and articles, by joining or creating groups and posting subjects, by topping and commenting on the postings that other members of the community make. It’s called interacting and what you are actually doing is adding value to the community. And something magical happens when you add value...you create opportunities for everyone involved.
It's also your opportunity to discover more like-minded souls. And what do we instinctively do when we believe we have found a like-minded soul? We make the effort to find out more about that person. We read some of the other stuff he/she has posted. We take a look at their profile, we visit their groups. In short, we are interested in what they do and what they have to say...including whatever business they are involved with and the nature of the team they belong to.
So, has it sunk in yet?
